A file cabinet on wheels is bought against the desk it rolls under. The two and three-drawer cabinets stand 26 to 28 inches tall, which fits under a 29 to 30-inch desk top with the casters locked; the height is on every card. The wood cabinets take letter folders in the deep drawer and pens in the shallow one; the fabric-drawer cabinets are lighter and cheaper and hold paper rather than files; the five-drawer stands 25 inches with a top rated for a printer at 100 lb, and the seven-drawer rolls beside the desk instead of under it.

A dresser, a bookshelf, a TV stand or a cabinet is the furniture that tips, and the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission runs a whole campaign, Anchor It!, on that one point: anchor all furniture with drawers, doors and shelves, and every TV, to the wall. The commission's five steps take a few minutes with the kit, a drill and a stud finder: fix a bracket to the wall, push the piece back against it, fix a bracket to the piece, run the strap between them, and tighten until a tug moves nothing. Under the STURDY Act, a dresser 27 inches or taller made after 1 September 2023 must pass federal stability tests and ship with an anti-tip device, and our fabric dressers of that height do ship with one; the strap only works once it is on the wall. A drawer left open for a climbing child is how most of these accidents start, and the commission's words are that they happen in the blink of an eye.
